Creative Outlet Dance Center Faculty and Staff

 

Gina Lanaux, Co-Director

 

Eugenia Lanaux founded Creative Outlet Dance Center in 1978 after graduating from the State University of New York/Brockport with a BA in Dance and Interdisciplinary Arts for Children in 1977. In college she performed in many student productions and later was a soloist with Alabama Dance Theater in Mobile, where her relationship with partner, Pagan Mosher first began. For the past 30 years, Ms. Lanaux has choreographed numerous productions for "Children's Dance Theater", Theater 98, Fairhope High School and Jubilee Fish Theater. She has given workshops in Dance and Arts Education to teachers and students in many private and public schools, has served on the Alabama State Council of the Arts Grants Panel, has produced the shows for the "Phantasy of the Arts" fundraiser for FEEF and is currently raising money for the Fairhope Center for the Arts as a board member of that organization.

 

Pagan S. Mosher, Co-Director

 

While attending the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Mrs. Mosher had seven years of Russian training with Ballet UAB under the direction of national and international artists.  As a soloist with Ballet UAB and principal artist with the Alabama Dance Theatre, she performed in a great variety of dance and theatrical productions, as well as in educational and advertising films.  Before becoming a partner in Creative Outlet Dance Center, she was an instructor at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Burchfield Ballet, and Ballet Mobile.  She has also taught in various secondary schools and private dance studios and traveled throughout Alabama with the “Artist in Schools” program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts.  In 1993, she was the Dance panelist on the Alabama State Council on the Arts and Humanities.

 

During the years at the Creative Outlet Dance Center she has executed numerous large scale scenery, prop and costume pieces. Most recently she created the two dancing trees and the Crocodile for Children’s Dance Theatre’s Production of “Peter Pan.

 

Jody Briggs, Instructor

 

Ms. Briggs received a B.A. in dance from Birmingham-Southern and an M.F.A. in theatre from Southern Illinois University.  She has taught at the Creative Outlet for ten years.  Before moving to Baldwin County she taught dance at the Bethesda Academy of Performing Arts in Bethesda, Maryland, and was the dance specialist at the Roundhouse Theatre in Silver Spring, Maryland.  In addition to her classes at Creative Outlet, Ms. Briggs has taught creative movement at the Country Day School in Fairhope as well as dance classes for the Fairhope High School Color Guard and the Foley High School Color Guard. 

 

Lindy Shippen, Instructor

 

Raised in Huntsville, Alabama, Ms Shippen received her training from Huntsville Civic Ballet.  At the 14 she started her own small business teaching dance locally in daycare programs, dance studios, and high schools.  Ms. Shippen continued her training with a scholarship to Huntingdon College where she is the only student to twice receive the Outstanding Soloist Performance Award.  While in college, she continued her teaching career at the Academy of Dance and Universal Dance Association.  In addition, she developed ballet programs for new dance studios in Greenville and Morgan City Alabama.  After receiving her B.A. in Performing Arts, she went on to teach in prestigious schools, including AUM, Huntingdon College and Montgomery Ballet.  At Auburn University of Montgomery she developed a special course designed to inform students of the correct methods of stretching and strengthening exercises for body maintenance and repair.  In 2002, she had the honor of becoming the Inter-Disciplinary Dace Instructor (a position acquired through a grant from the Alabama State Arts Council) at Floyd Elementary School where she created a Curriculum that incorporates movement with academic studies. 

 

Ms. Shippen is dedicated to helping children improve and enrich their quality of life through art education.  She has worked with several outreach programs for at risk children.  These programs include the S.T.E.P. (Strategies to Elevate People), Cleveland Avenue YMCA, Head Start, Smart Start, and the Montgomery Housing Authority. 

 

Ms. Shippen moved to Fairhope, Alabama in 2003.  She was happy to discover a beautiful town with great people.  She is proud to continue her career in teaching expression, motivation, and self esteem through the art of movement at Creative Outlet Dance Center.   

 

Davina Gwin, Instructor

 

Ms. Gwin received a B.A. and a B.S. in Elementary Education with a minor in Art from Carson Newman.  Before moving to Alabama, Ms. Gwin taught dance, music and movement classes for the pre-school age in both public and private schools throughout the state of Florida. 

 

She has performed with the jazz company, STRUT, in south Florida and has also performed wit the Ft. Lauderdale Ballet Company. 

 

Ms. Gwin has choreographed and staged a wide variety of performances for schools, colleges, dance teams, pageants and city productions.  She has taught dance at the Creative Outlet since 2001.
